With the schools now back in the U.S. and in the UK, the Embassy’s latest newsletter for teachers look at some interesting facts and statistics associated with the return to the classrooms
For instance; 78 million children and adults enrolled in school throughout the country in October 2012 —from nursery school to college. They comprised 26.4 percent of the entire population age 3 and older.
The newsletter has plenty of interesting articles on U.S. Education matters; such as an article on “Dispelling the Myth of Deferred Gratification” Underlying self-discipline and grit is the idea of deferring gratification—for example, by putting off doing what you enjoy until you finish your “work.” The appeal to many educators of transforming kids from lazy grasshoppers to hardworking ants explains the fresh wave of interest in a series of experiments conducted back in the 1960s known as the marshmallow studies.
