Information for Immigrant Visa Applicants Processed through the NVC

From November 12th, the National Visa Center (NVC) will no longer collect original civil documents for IV applicants whose applications are being processed through them. Instead, applicants will submit photocopies of their documents. This will not apply to the I-864 Affidavit of Support; NVC still requires the original document.

Once the NVC confirms that all the necessary documents have been received, an interview will be scheduled for the applicant and the case file transferred to the Immigrant Visa Unit at the Embassy.  Please note that it takes approximately 8 weeks for case files to be transferred.  During that time, the Immigrant Visa Unit cannot make any changes to the applicant’s details or interview date.

Applicants who have submitted copies of their documents to NVC will be required to furnish the original document at their visa interview.   Before the interview, applicants should review the Embassy’s checklist, which can be downloaded from our website here as a PDF
