Remarks by President Obama on Mass Shooting in Orlando

President Obama Delivers a Statement on the Tragic Shooting in Orlando
President Obama Delivers a Statement on the Tragic Shooting in Orlando

“Today, as Americans, we grieve the brutal murder — a horrific massacre — of dozens of innocent people. We pray for their families, who are grasping for answers with broken hearts. We stand with the people of Orlando, who have endured a terrible attack on their city. Although it’s still early in the investigation, we know enough to say that this was an act of terror and an act of hate. And as Americans, we are united in grief, in outrage, and in resolve to defend our people.

This is an especially heartbreaking day for all our friends — our fellow Americans — who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The shooter targeted a nightclub where people came together to be with friends, to dance and to sing, and to live. The place where they were attacked is more than a nightclub — it is a place of solidarity and empowerment where people have come together to raise awareness, to speak their minds, and to advocate for their civil rights.”

  16. I just wanted to express my sorrow for the awful incident in Orlando. Those vibrant people did not deserve this and I can’t imagine what their families and friends are experiencing.

I visited San Francisco in 2005 to marry my husband. Ok, I know Florida and California are miles apart, but it was the best holiday ever. The Gay community in SF was the most welcoming to a bloke and woman in their late thirties, and we have memories to cherish forever. Americans are exceptional people.

Please accept my love and thoughts.

With love, Rachel Curran. Northampton, England.

  26. Every day, I think things can’t get worse in our country. But Sunday morning proved me wrong, I can’t imagine the terror and the fear that everyone in “The Pulse” was feeling at that dreadful time. Wondering if you were going to get out alive and if you were ever going to see your friends and family again. It had to be the worse moments of your lives. But out of this tragedy, great heroism was found. Not only for the first responders but for the people inside the club that risked their own lives to save others. And this is what our country does. We fight back and help in any way possible. That’s what makes us American strong. Please know that you are in my prayers; each and every one of you. And please never forget—YOU ARE NOT ALONE. May God bless you all.
