  3. Very sad to hear the death of President Bush. He was a great hero of the Second World War, an outstanding public servant, a great statesman and a steadfast ally of Great Britain and Europe. Above all he was a constant gentleman and a role model for all Americans.

    The German people had in him a true friend who recognized the significance of the historic hour of reunification and gave us his trust and support. The courageous and peaceful revolution by people east of the Iron Curtain met with the courage and skill of a statesman who, together with others, led Europe and the trans-Atlantic partnership though this upheaval and ushered in a new era.

  32. A President and a great Statesman who helped to end the Cold War, to unify Europe and to return Baltic States to the community of free nations has passed away.

    He will be remembered in Latvia as a staunch supporter of our aspirations towards freedom and democracy, and our full reintegration in EuroAtlantic institutions.

    May I recall, that the Bush family have had a historic role in the process of regaining of Latvia’s freedom and return to the community of free nations. On 2 September 1991, President George H. W. Bush recognized reestablishment of independence of Republic of Latvia. His son George W. Bush visited Latvia twice during his Presidential tenure.
